Do you still need a DVLA code to hire a car?
Because the UK driving licence no longer shows penalty points and endorsements, many rental agencies will perform a check with the DVLA to check your driving history. If you have recent endorsements, the company may refuse to rent you a car. As a general rule of thumb 6 points in the past 6 months is acceptable, anything above that you need to check direct with the rental company.
It is advised to access and print off a copy of your driving history from the Driving and Vehicle Licence Agency website. The copy is valid for 21 days and will be accepted by the rental company. If you have not downloaded a copy, the rental company may perform the task, but some may charge a small fee. This is the link to view and download a copy of your driving history, click here
