One of the most scenic routes in all of Austria is one the heads through Hohe Tauern National Park. It is one of the most famous drives and is only actually 48 kilometers long, but the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is well worth every kilometer. Along the way, you’ll reach heights of around 250 metres, at a spot known as Hochtor.
You must also not miss the 445-kilometer drive along the Danube which begins in Passau, the border of Germany and Austria, and twists and turns all the way to a small town near known as Hainburg which is near the edges of the famous Donau-Auen National Park. Along the drive itself you’ll see the vineyards in Wachau, you’ll get views of monasteries and ancient ruins, as well as see historic small cities.
Another famous drive is along the Lowland Plains of Burgenland, which extends over 220-kilometers. This drive itself is special because of the ability to stop at such tourist destinations as Baroque Halbturn Castle and the town of Rust which is not only famous for architecture but for wine as well. Wherever you drive in Austria, you’ll certainly fall in love and find more than you originally desired.
