Finland is unspoiled nature at it’s finest. You have around 188,000 lakes and enough islands to almost match that. If that isn’t truly beautiful and a selling point on it’s own, nothing else is. How about the fact that it is a country steeped in rich history, wonderful food and people, and extreme climate changes? What about if we told you that’s where Santa came from? The world famous Lapland is here in Finland. Finland has a history dating back to around 100 AD when it was just a place of tribes people. Now, it is one of the most technologically advanced cities in the entire world. Finland doesn’t have many mountains, but the beauty is unmistakable when it comes to rolling green plains and gorgeous castles. All the mountains it does have are in the very far north! However, you’ll still get plenty of beautiful nature on the low-lying plains.

Lapland:
Rovaniemi is where our jolly friend Santa Claus originates from. His hometown is also quite unique because it is the land of the 24-hour sun. In certain times of the year, it is light throughout the whole day in Lapland. It needs to be noted that in the winter time, you really need to know how to drive 4×4 vehicles to get here. It is not an easy drive when it is not summer, so please be weary about heading this far north. If you do find yourself this far in the north, you can enjoy a great selection of resorts, fishing, and happy people. Lapland provides great historical significance with top quality nature.
Linnansaari National Park
This national park features hundreds of uninhabited islands, as well as the main island Linnansaari which has dozens of marked trails. Navigating your way through these wonderful trails will give you a chance to see rare birds like the osprey, seals, and other animals. Most people love to take the canoes or kayaks and explore the area on their own. In the winter, some areas make it a great place for ice-skating.
Helsinki:
The capital city of Finland was founded in 1550 and has been the capital since 1812. With a population of just over 600,000 people, it truly has a small-town charm that one can get to know. Many visitors first destination is Suomenlinna – once the greatest sea fortress in the Baltic Sea. It is a great UNESCO Heritage Site that shouldn’t be overlooked, as it provides a great glimpse into the past. Also, head to the Seurasaari Open Air Museum to see old Finnish houses and ancient trails. These are just two of the great things one can do in Helsinki!

The summer months are the best but if you go off season then the price of car rental will be much cheaper.

Driving in Finland
Finland is great for driving as it is generally pretty uncongested, but don’t let that convince you to drive fast and reckless. Wildlife and cyclists can be a danger when driving. The general speed limit is 50 km/h in built-up areas and 80 km/h outside the built up areas. On most major highways, it is between 100 km/h to 120 km/h. However, in winter the speed limit decrease drastically as it is very dangerous in that time of the year. It is the law to always have your headlights on, in winter or summer. Also, in night or daytime.
