Minivan Passenger Rental Driving Tips
If this is your first time driving a people carrier or large minivan, we advise taking some time to get familar with the van. Does it have blind spots, are the parking sensors working. Some vans have parking sensors that can be switched on and off via the menu.
If this is your first time driving an automatic or driving on a different side of the road ( left side of road down under and NZ), be extra careful until you get into the swing of it. The good news is that the roads in New Zealand are not too crowded, so you should be able to find a quiet road to build up your driving skill set.,
Most minivans drive like a car, but take into account if you are driving one of the10 or 12 seater minibuses that you will need extra braking time, and you will need to drive slower on windy roads.
Pay particular attention to road signs and never ever speed. Speeding will result in Automatic fines that will be added to your car rental cost at drop off or even after drop off if you were caught on the way to the airport, for example.
Seat belts are compulsory for everyone in the minivan or people carrier. If you have small children, they most be secured in an approved child seat. These can be rented direct from the rental company, or you may bring your own. If you bring your own, make sure it is compliant to the country of travel.
